Dec2008/1 bulletin: Greenlane residents have fun filled potluck and elect new committee
Residents potluck attracts many residents, new and old
The 3rd potluck on 5th December 2008 attracted many residents and their families to come together and meet each other and eat good food. It was generally a fun filled event for the neighbours and families. The highlight of the occasion the karaoke crooning by none other than residents committee president Col (Rtd) Johar Abdullah and a number of other hidden singing talents of Greenlane.
New committee elected
Aside from the fun stuff at the potluck, the residents got down to the more serious matters of security and community updates and the election of the new residents committee (see page for new committee members and line leaders). Farid Rahman, secretary of the committee updated the following:
- cleaning of unkempt areas around the neighbourhood
- fixing gaping holes in the perimeter fencing
- established additional street lighting
- partial relocation of ‘rumah kongsi’
- construction of the guard house and security gate
- petitioned Sime Darby Properties on roof leakages and electricity faults
- appointment and management of security providers
119 houses participating in security arrangement, but more commitment needed
Joari Jaafar, treasurer of the committee updated that there were 134 houses (total 206 houses) occupied in Greenlane. However, only 119 are participating in the security arrangement. “We need more participation AND timely payment of the quarterly security fees to your respective line leaders so that we can enhance security”, urged Joari.
Entry point gating & car sticker system
Farid also updated that the guards will be instructed from the new year to control traffic into Greenlane if the vehicles do not carry the official car stickers. Each household is entitled to two stickers at RM3 each. Additional stickers will be charged at RM10 each.
Other community building ideas
The residents agreed that the potluck is a good initiative and should be done at least twice a year in June and December. In addition to this there were suggestions of other community building ideas such as golf, football/futsal, go-kart, walk-a-hunts, sukaneka, gotong-royong, car boot sales etc. Residents are advised to carry out these activities and send the notifications via the website or email list.
